How to brew your own beer
Brewing your own beer can be fun and it can save you lots of money. Of course the more you drink the more you save.
You do have to buy some equipment and you may make a bit of a mess in the kitchen but you will think it was well worthwhile when you sit down to sample your handiwork.
You will probably buy an ingredient kit for each batch you brew but you can still experiment in order to stumble on to your perfect ale.

Here is the equipment you will need to brew 5 gallons.
1. A five gallon pot.
2. A 6 1/2 gallon fermenting container.
3. A seal and airlock for the container.
4. Funnel.
5. Thermometer.
6. Syphon hose.
7. Hydrometer.

Here is the equipment you will need to bottle your brew.
1. Glass bottles.
2. Bottle caps and capper.
3. Bottling bucket with spigot.

You can buy ingredient kits for any type of beer.

Here is how to prepare your wort.
Remember to keep everything sanitized.
Fill you pot with 1 1/2 gallons of water then add the syrup from your ingredient kit.
Add malt extract or corn starch if your kit contains them.
Boil for 15 to 30 minutes stirring regularly.
Fill the fermenter with 3 gallons of cold water.
Add the contents of the pot to the fermenter.
Check the temperature of the fermenter contents. When they are between 70 to 78 degrees it is time to add the yeast.
Take a hydrometer reading. This will be used to measure the alcoholic content of your brew.
Close the fermenter and add the seal and airlock. Store the fermenter in a dark place at 70 degrees. You should see bubbles coming out of the airlock in a few hours.
When the bubbles stop it is time to bottle. Fermentation time depends on the brew but is usually in the 6 to 14 days range.

Bottling.
Add 3/4 lb of corn sugar to 1 cup of water. Boil and set aside to cool.
Take a hydrometer reading now to measure the alcoholic content.
Add the corn sugar solution to your bottling bucket and start to syphon your beer from the fermenter into your bottling bucket.
Fill and cap your bottles.
In about a week you will see sediment in the bottles. The beer is finshed but you should let it age for 2 to 4 weeks.

Drinking.
Because there is sediment in the bottle pour you beer into a glass. Raise the glass. Say cheers. Swallow.
